Harrison Burton wound up in victory lane Saturday night at Daytona. Completing an underdog victory while also having a great father/son moment with his dad Jeff Burton being up in the NBC Sports booth calling his son home to the finish. Many were incredibly happy with this finish, seeing the worst full-time guy in drivers points beat the likes of Christopher Bell and Kyle Busch. Others were not as happy, pointing out how the worst full-time guy was now qualified for the NASCAR Playoffs after having a dismal 2024 campaign. This is Harrison Burton: NASCAR Fans’ Underdog Enigma.

What is your opinion of Harrison Burton’s win? Great underdog story, unacceptable Playoff entry, or a mix of both?
Great Underdog story
Both
good playoff entry, I get the feeling he will be a first round drop, but DAMN I wish bush broke that winless
Ofc both
It’s a great story that he got a win and a 100th for wood brothers
But he does not deserve to be in the playoffs. 34th in points getting into the playoffs is ridiculous. Good for him on the win we should celebrate it being a win
Not him making the playoffs cause he was good in 1 race
As a Kyle Busch fan I’m sad he didn’t block Burton. However, I feel great that Harrison Burton won. I’m kind of annoyed with the fact that he’s in the playoffs, but he got in under the rules that are there and he deserves to be there. I’m not a big fan of win and you’re in for this reason.
I’m happy that Harrison got the win. Getting the Wood Brothers their 100th victory in the cup series is a major undertaking. And it should never be taken lightly. However, as many have pointed out in the past, the playoff system has to go. And as Brock Beard put it, wins nowadays are less important and more transactional than valuable.
It’s just unfortunate that the playoffs/win and you’re in had to ruin an amazing win. Harrison became the first driver born in the 2000’s to race, the 100th win for an iconic organization, and one of if not the biggest upset of the Next Gen car era. At least he won cleanly unlike Austin Dillon at Richmond
Putting almost your entire car below the double yellow line the block is not winning cleanly that is highly highly highly illegal. And the only reason the only reason NASCAR did not call it is because it was Kyle Busch in second.
@@fishingwithkar4871 Harrison went below the yellow because he tried to save the car
@@fishingwithkar4871 It wasn’t called because his car was bump-drafted below the yellow line by Kyle. Even Kyle isn’t complaining about this, so unless you’re his mom, why are you?
I swear the bar for stupidity just keeps getting lower and lower.
Austin won cleanly before nascar decided to do their typical gwc and steal it away. He was leading at lap 400 quite cleanly I seem to remember. 412 or whatever, who cares?!
I miss the old playoffs. Because NASCAR in my opinion just ruined it do you have to win and you’re in.
I couldn’t be any happier for Harrison Burton on being a NASCAR Cup Series Winner.
But at the same time it’s insane that He became a NASCAR Cup Series Winner before GTA 6 Especially Considering that his Father Jeff Burton had an active driving career in the duration of Every GTA Game’s Release.
This is a wildly random comparison, but also totally mindblowing.
Don’t hate the player. Hate the game.
Until nascar changes the rules of the game based on lines in the sand.
I don’t hate him.
He’s just an extremely lucky untalented driver that’s only in the sport because of daddy.
@@Dougie1969 nascar is the headquarters of nepotism.
@@Dougie1969At least Jeff Burton doesn’t own a race team just to get his son in cup.
@@BraydenBunch58
Hhmm
Earnhardt??
Trying to think of who else you could be talking about as a father that owned a team?
I mean I’m no Earnhardt fan
But even Jr had talent
Nowhere near daddy though.
We need more wins like SVG’s Chicago win. It would get people to not worry about the playoff format.
Parker retzlaff and Cody ware would be my talladega picks now
Well that requires the end of the win your in system. SVG wasn’t a full time driver so the playoff implications didn’t matter.
You’re @@rexthewolf3149
I was grinning from ear to ear as Harrison showed the Wood Brothers why they should’ve kept him in the seat. It’s been a long 3 years.
For those complaining, I only have 1 thing to say: you knew the rules going in, so you can’t begrudge him making the playoffs. As for whether there should be a playoffs is a completely different conversation. Let’s have that conversation in the off-season.
A superspeedway win for a also ran team isn’t rare. It’s luck. I’m sure this won’t change their decision to let him go. He’s 36th in points. A luck win doesn’t change that.
There are others complaining about him going under the double yellow line.
He showed the Wood brothers why they should’ve kept him ??
Yeah because many teams would love to have 1 win in 3 years.
Lmfao
I won’t waste my time with the rest of the comment.
Life’s too short
@Dougie1969 Wood brothers’ equipment also sucks. It’s not what it used to be.
@@runrafarunthebestintheworld He was hit, had to regain control and never lost his position. Not an exact quote but I believe the rule states “if you go below the yellow line and GAIN a position you COULD be penalized.” To this day Regan Smith was robbed of his Talladega win BECAUSE he was leading just like Harrison but that time NASCAR screwed him over.
Harrison Burton deserves another Chance in Cup. Maybe not with a Competitive Team.
I see him going to the Kaulig 31 or Spire 7 at best. If those fall through, I think he goes back down to Xfinity or Trucks to prove himself like JHN did when he left Front Row
I think Michael McDowell will likely be driving the 7 since he signed with Spire since LaJoie is departing at the end of this season.
@@dopeyanteater117 i think mcdowell’s confirmed to the 71 next year
@@dopeyanteater117
I thought McDowell Was driving the 71
@@ihateads123 @SonicJohnz924 he is, I just forgot he was driving the 71 next year. Sorry bros
I think that the top 30 rule should most definitely be upheld for next season but at the same time, that was one of the most awesome wins I’ve seen live! you cant be not happy for Burton and his family.
I’m so much more happy about the win than I am about the playoffs lol
If you have a problem with a good clean win maybe your the problem. This win came honestly good for Burton and the Wood Bros.
Sure sure
I’m the problem
Lol
@Dougie1969 yes you Crybabies are the problem definitely
@@truckercowboyed2638
Yeah
I can’t help it though.
At least there are brave Internet heros such as yourself to point out who crybabies are.
Thanks so much for bringing that rare hero spirit out.
Lmfao ya dolt
@@Dougie1969 well if it’s so bad why do you comment on something you hate,?? Just leave the sport
@@truckercowboyed2638
I’m not sure why you believe I hate anything to do with this subject.
You clearly have no clue or care on my opinion.
As far as the last statement of “leaving the sport”
Like who in the actual F are you anyway?
I’ve watched this sport since the days of Davey Allison
I’m certainly not leaving nor will i stop commenting because of some Internet tough guy
PS
I’d et a million you aren’t a ” trucker’ or a “cowboy”.
Later tough guy
I love the Wood Brothers! It’s always great to see them win! Unfortunately, it’s only happened 4 times since I became a Nascar fan in 1998. I hope they get more soon!
The kid had to hold off a future hall of famer, who was also fighting for a spot in the playoffs no less and won the darn race. Go get em Harrison!
Don’t hate the player. Hate the system. I can enjoy the win while at the same time hating the playoffs.
don’t hate the player, hate the game
Aa sidenote: Parker Retzlaff top 10! God I love the kid, he’s a massive talent
Really the only people who should be mad are Chastain and Wallace fans. Possibly buescher and gibbs fans as well
Busch fans are freaking out about the yellow line rule
When Trevor Bayne won the Daytona 500, there was no bitching about it – because there was no “playoffs” caveat earned from that win. We could just enjoy the win for what it was – a shining underdog victory.
Same for Justin Haley’s win of this race in 2019
I was torn on that final restart. Wanted to see Rowdy get his 20 year win streak, but really wanted to see Burton win too. I figured Rowdy had it in the bag, but when Burton got the push out front and started throwing blocks, I stood up in disbelief. Seeing Harrison Burton win the race felt like stepping into an alternate timeline. That was an awesome win, I’m glad Burton got it done
I can 100 percent relate to that. I also stood there and when Busch got that run out of the final turn, i yelled: “Block him! Block him!”
From a racing (non playoff) perspective, Harrison’s win was huge. After a disappointing run in that 21 car, he needed this boost of confidence. Also seeing Jeff Burton celebrate was amazing to see. This is a much needed and amazing win for Harrison to say he’s a cup series winner but to also know he can (giving the situation) go and complete moving forward
