The NASCAR world is very much reeling from the unexpected death of legendary driver Kyle Busch at 41. On Friday, it was reported that a call to 911 was made before his passing, per ESPN.
He was experiencing shortness of breath, felt overheated, and was coughing up blood. An unknown person made the call from the General Motors training facility. They told the dispatcher, “I’ve got an individual that’s [got] shortness of breath, very hot, thinks he’s going to pass out, and is producing a little bit of blood, coughing up some blood.”
Busch was lying on the bathroom floor while the caller relayed all the information to the dispatcher.
The cause of death remains unknown, but Busch’s family indicated that he was recently hospitalized with a “severe illness”. Busch was supposed to compete this weekend in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. According
According to the Associated Press, Busch was taking part in testing in Concord when he began to experience symptoms of illness.
His death has sent the world of NASCAR into mourning and is the second most recent high-profile passing of a driver. Last December, former driver Greg Biffle and his family were tragically killed in a plane crash.
Consequently, Busch is one of the prolific drivers of his time across all levels of racing. He won 63 NASCAR cup races, 9th on the all-time list. Busch won 102 NASCAR Xfinity races, the most all-time. Additionally, he is the all-time leader in wins in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck series with 69.
He won two NASCAR Cup championships in 2015 and 2019.
