A huge NASCAR rumor is making the rounds following Brad Keselowski’s surprise departure from RFK Racing, but the story comes with a major caveat.

The speculation suggests that Trackhouse Racing could be in financial trouble, sell one of its NASCAR Cup Series charters and potentially send Ross Chastain to the vacant No.6 at RFK Racing.

However, there is currently no credible confirmation that Trackhouse is preparing to sell a charter or that Chastain is moving to RFK.

In fact, available reporting points in the opposite direction.

Trackhouse Has Already Addressed the Charter Rumor

Rumors about Trackhouse potentially downsizing have previously circulated since the organization expanded to three Cup Series cars.

Justin Marks has directly rejected the idea that Trackhouse is preparing to sell a charter. According to reporting from Joseph Srigley, Marks said he did not know where the charter-sale rumors came from and argued that “downsizing our company” would not be the right move.

Marks also said Trackhouse has sponsorship commitments to operate three Cup Series entries and that reducing its NASCAR operation would mean turning away sponsors.

That makes the financial-trouble portion of the latest rumor particularly difficult to establish.

There is also no reliable evidence, as of October 1, that Trackhouse is actively attempting to sell one of its charters.

Could Ross Chastain Really Move to RFK?

The Chastain-to-RFK part of the rumor is easier to understand because RFK suddenly has a major opening.

On September 29, RFK Racing announced that Brad Keselowski will leave the No.6 Ford after the 2026 season. The team has not yet announced the driver who will replace him, but RFK has confirmed that it intends to remain a three-car organization in 2027 and is continuing its pursuit of a third charter.

That immediately created speculation about which driver could take over the No.6.

Ross Chastain is an obvious name to connect to the story because he is an established Cup Series winner and has previously been linked to driver-market speculation. But the current evidence does not support a move.

Fox Sports reported after the Keselowski announcement that all three Trackhouse drivers -Chastain, Shane van Gisbergen and Connor Zilisch- are signed through 2027.

That does not make a future move impossible, but it means a Chastain transfer would require the two organizations and the driver to work through an existing contract.

The Keselowski Exit Is What Changed Everything

The rumor has gained attention because the RFK situation genuinely changed on September 29.

Keselowski will leave the No.6 after five seasons with RFK, while the team is simultaneously trying to secure a third charter for 2027. RFK’s official statement says the organization remains committed to running three cars and will announce its plans for the №6 at the appropriate time.

That creates a real vacancy, even if it does not automatically point to Chastain.

For now, the most accurate way to describe the Trackhouse story is speculation rather than a confirmed NASCAR move.

Still, with RFK looking for a driver and a charter, the NASCAR silly season has suddenly become much more unpredictable.
