Did This Wardrobe Malfunction Cost Dale Jr. A Championship?

In 2004 Dale Earnhardt Jr looked well on his way to his first championship in the inaugural Chase for the Nextel Cup. But after dropping a swear on live TV NASCAR fined him 25 points and in turn took him out of the points lead, a lead he would not regain until 2012. All of this due to a wardrobe malfunction in the Super Bowl. Did this wardrobe malfunction cost Dale Jr. a championship?

Most bullshit penalty in NASCAR history. Sure, fine him, that makes sense. But to take away points towards the championship because he said a big scawy swear word on TV? Come on. Save the points penalties for cheating and deliberate wrecks.
