NASCAR made history Sunday night at the Grant Park 220, the first-ever street race in Chicago. There were nine cautions, one overtime, and one big pile-up that happened late in Stage 2. Christopher Bell dominated early and won both Stage 1 and Stage 2. He would eventually lose his lead after he crashed into the tire barrier. As the race went on, Shane van Gisbergen and Justin Haley battled back-and-forth with multiple lead changes in the last few laps of the race. In the end, three-time Super Cars champ Shane van Gisbergen captured the big Grant Park 200 win, making him the first driver to win his first Cup Series start in 60 years.

Tyler and Bell worked so hard this race and its a shame they didnt end up in the top 5. Big congrats to SVG though he definitely earned it today.

All part of Nascar’s Part monopoly making sure what teams are given the good parts and what teams will have part issues. Nascar knows with the entire world complaining about what they have done to nascar they needed to make it look like anyone can win even those who don’t have big money like back in the good old day when guys like Alan Kulwicki did in his UNDERBIRD. Back before Nascar let the teams , car Manufactures and Drivers race. The more wrecked cars today the more nascar gets through their parts monopoly and making it easier for whoever they want to run well that week to do so.
@JUNKERS488 yeah, you’re right. It’s about NASCAR controlling outcomes and had nothing to do with the driver having 82 victories and 3 championships under his belt in Australian Supercars.
What if they put a Daytona street course together? This opens up some serious opportunities for street tracks in Nascars future

Solid debut of street racing and a fine race/finish by the Kiwi. Thank goodness this was in the hands of the NBC crew. RIP that poor contractor that got electrocuted setting this race up.

Watching from Australia! This type of nascar racing is sick! It will definitely bring more of an international audience, would be unreal to get some Americans over in the V8 supercars too!
Just shows to go how good Super Cars actually is, although we all kind of knew but this just confirms it’s absolutely world class. So good!
As a Brit I was routing for Button after his adventures with Garage56 at LeMans, but I’ve watched SVG in Aussie Supercars for years and know how talented he is. Humble guy too, but a machine behind the wheel! Good to see some variety in Nascar now, circuits and drivers 🙂
I don’t understand how New Zealand, a small country, has such the outpour of racing talent, it is amazing. SVG, Bruce McLaren, Scott Dixon, Denny Hulme, Chris Amon, Brendon Hartley, Liam Lawson, Mike Thackwell and Mitch Evans.
Brendon Hartley is not that good. Also McLaren was Australian I think and Dixon is Australian but runs with a New Zealand license
@Tristan Ellis Gaming Hartley is great in the World Endurance Championship and has won Le Mans three times with Toyota
